Why Personalization Matters

Generic messages get ignored:

Hey! I have a product you might like. Interested?

Response rate: 2-5%

Personalized messages get responses:

Hey! Saw you're active in r/SaaS and struggling with project management for remote teams.

I built a tool specifically for this – makes async coordination way easier. Want to try it?

Response rate: 15-30%

Why personalization works:

  • Shows you're not mass-spamming
  • Demonstrates relevance to their needs
  • Builds trust before asking for action
  • Increases perceived value of your offer

Spintax: Creating Message Variations

Spintax (spinning syntax) allows you to create multiple variations of your message to avoid spam detection and appear more natural.

Basic Spintax Syntax

Use curly braces {} with options separated by pipe | symbols:

{option1|option2|option3}

Example:

{Hey|Hello|Hi} there!

Possible outputs:

  • "Hey there!"
  • "Hello there!"
  • "Hi there!"

The extension randomly selects one option each time it sends a message.

Why Use Spintax?

Avoid spam detection:

  • Sending identical messages = Reddit may flag as spam
  • Varied messages = Appears organic and human

Natural conversation:

  • Real humans don't copy-paste identical messages
  • Variations make each DM feel unique to the recipient

Compliance:

  • Reduces risk of Reddit's anti-spam systems triggering
  • Helps maintain account health over time

Spintax Best Practices

1. Vary Greetings

Basic:

{Hey|Hello|Hi}! I saw your comment...

Advanced:

{Hey|Hello|Hi|Hey there}, I {noticed|saw|came across} your comment...

2. Vary Action Words

I'm {building|working on|creating|developing} a tool that {helps|assists with|makes easier|solves}...

Output variations:

  • "I'm building a tool that helps..."
  • "I'm working on a tool that makes easier..."
  • "I'm creating a tool that solves..."

3. Vary Calls-to-Action

{Would you want to try it|Interested in checking it out|Want to give it a shot|Would you like early access}?

4. Vary Middle Sentences

{I thought you might find it useful|Figured it could help you|Think it's right up your alley|Seems perfect for your use case}.

Complete Spintax Message Example

{Hey|Hello|Hi}! I {noticed|saw} you're active in r/{subreddit} and {thought you might be interested in this|wanted to share something relevant}.

I'm {building|working on|creating} {a tool|a product|an app} that {helps with|makes it easier to|solves} [your specific value prop]. {I thought you might find it useful|Figured it could help|Think it's perfect for your use case}.

{Would you want to try it|Interested in checking it out|Want early access|Would you like to give it a shot}?

Possible unique combinations: 4 Γ— 2 Γ— 2 Γ— 3 Γ— 3 Γ— 3 Γ— 4 = 1,728 variations!

This means you can send thousands of DMs without ever repeating the exact same message.

Spintax Mistakes to Avoid

❌ Don't over-spin:

{Hey|Hello|Hi|Greetings|Salutations|What's up|Howdy|Yo}! I {saw|noticed|observed|perceived|detected}...

Too many options = awkward combinations. Keep it natural.

❌ Don't spin critical info:

I'm building {a project management tool|a CRM|a email marketing platform}

Your product doesn't change! Only spin phrasing, not facts.

❌ Don't create grammatically incorrect combinations:

I'm {building|built} a tool ← Creates "I'm built a tool" (wrong!)

Make sure ALL combinations are grammatically correct.

βœ… Do this instead:

I {recently built|just launched|am building} a tool

All options work grammatically.

Previewing Spintax

Before sending, preview how your spintax will randomize:

  1. Write your message with spintax in Campaign Setup
  1. Click "Preview Variations" (if available) or test by looking at the message
  1. Mentally check multiple combinations for grammar and naturalness

Pro tip: Read your message replacing each {option} with ALL possible values to ensure every combination makes sense.

Future Variables (Coming Soon)

Variables are still WIP. Let us know if you want this. We may add more variables:

  • {{subreddit}} - The subreddit where you found them
  • {{thread_title}} - The post title (thread campaigns)
  • {{context}} - Custom context from CSV (list campaigns)

Check the extension UI for available variables in the message template area.

Combining Variables + Spintax

Variables are processed first, then spintax is randomized:

Template:

{Hey|Hello} saw your post in {{subreddit}}! I {saw|noticed} you're interested in [topic]...

Creating Effective Message Templates

The 3-Sentence Framework

Sentence 1: Establish Context Show you're not randomly spamming.

{Hey|Hi}! I {saw|noticed} you're active in r/[subreddit] {and discussing [topic]|and thought you might be interested in this}.

Sentence 2: Present Value What you're offering and why it matters.

I'm {building|working on} [product name] – it {helps|makes it easier to} [specific benefit relevant to their pain point].

Sentence 3: Call-to-Action Clear, low-pressure ask.

{Would you want to try it|Interested in checking it out|Want early access}?

Template Examples by Use Case

{Would you want to try it|Interested in early access|Want to give it a shot}?

Mobile App for Specific Audience

{Hey|Hello}! {Saw|Noticed} you're in r/[niche] and {thought this might interest you|figured you'd find this relevant}.

I {just launched|recently built|created} an app that {helps with|makes it easier to} [specific use case]. {Think it's perfect for [audience]|Built it specifically for [pain point]}.

{Want in|Interested|Would you like early access}?

Advanced Personalization Techniques

Reference Specific Pain Points

Research the subreddit/thread and mention the #1 pain point discussed:

Saw you're in r/SaaS struggling with [common pain point from that community].

I built [product] specifically for this – [how it solves that exact problem].

Example:

Saw you're in r/SaaS struggling with finding early adopters.

I built a Reddit outreach tool specifically for this – automates DMs to your exact target audience while staying safe.

Use Social Proof

If you have traction, mention it:

{We've helped|I've worked with} [X users/companies] {improve|solve|achieve} [specific outcome].

Example:

We've helped 200+ SaaS founders find their first 100 users through Reddit outreach.

Create Urgency (Authentic Only)

If there's a real reason to act now:

{Launching publicly next month|Only taking 50 beta users|Closing beta signups Friday}

Don't fake urgency – Reddit users are skeptical and will call out artificial scarcity.

Ask for Feedback (High Response Rate)

Frame as seeking input, not selling:

{I'm looking for feedback from [audience]|Would love your thoughts as someone in [niche]|Wanted to get input from [community] members}.

{2 minutes of your time|Quick 5-minute chat|Your perspective would be super valuable}.

Why this works:

  • People love being asked their opinion
  • Lower commitment than "buy my product"
  • Starts a conversation vs. one-way pitch

Message Length Best Practices

Optimal Length: 3-4 Sentences (60-100 words)

Too short:

Hey! I have a tool. Want it?

Not enough context, feels spammy.

Too long:

Hey! I saw your comment and wanted to reach out because I'm building this amazing tool that does X, Y, and Z. It's perfect for people like you because [5 more sentences explaining features]. We have tons of users and [more social proof]. Here's our website, pricing, and full feature list. Let me know if you're interested!

Too much cognitive load, feels like a sales pitch. Users won't read it.

Just right:

Hey! Saw you're in r/SaaS struggling with finding early users.

I built a tool that automates Reddit outreach safely – helps founders like you find and DM your exact audience.

Want to try it?

Context + value + CTA. Easy to read and respond to.

Mobile-Friendly Formatting

Most Reddit users check DMs on mobile:

βœ… Do:

  • Short paragraphs (1-2 sentences each)
  • Line breaks between sections
  • No walls of text

❌ Don't:

  • Long run-on paragraphs
  • Complex formatting
  • Multiple links (suspicious)

Testing and Optimizing Messages

A/B Testing Your Templates

Run the same campaign with different message variations:

Week 1: Test Message A

Campaign: "SaaS Founders - Message A"
Template: [Version focusing on pain point]
Result: 30 DMs sent, 4 responses (13% response rate)

Week 2: Test Message B

Campaign: "SaaS Founders - Message B"
Template: [Version focusing on social proof]
Result: 30 DMs sent, 8 responses (27% response rate)

Winner: Message B – Use this template for scaling.

What to Test

Test one variable at a time:

  • Opening line (context establishment)
  • Value proposition phrasing
  • Call-to-action (direct vs. question vs. feedback request)
  • Message length (short vs. medium)
  • Tone (casual vs. professional)

Track in separate campaigns to measure performance accurately.

Analyzing Response Quality

Not all responses are equal:

Low-quality responses:

  • "No thanks"
  • "Not interested"
  • One-word replies

High-quality responses:

  • Questions about your product
  • "Tell me more"
  • Booking a call/demo
  • Actual conversions

Optimize for quality over raw response rate. A 10% response rate with 8% converting is better than 30% response rate with 2% converting.

Personalization Checklist

Before launching your campaign, verify:

  • βœ… Message references the subreddit or thread context
  • βœ… Spintax used in 3-5 places for variations
  • βœ… All spintax combinations are grammatically correct
  • βœ… Template variables (if used) are correctly formatted
  • βœ… Message length is 3-4 sentences (60-100 words)
  • βœ… Clear call-to-action at the end
  • βœ… Tone matches the community (casual for r/startups, technical for r/webdev, etc.)
  • βœ… No typos or formatting errors
  • βœ… Value proposition is specific, not generic
  • βœ… Message feels natural, not robotic
